About Kima
A criminal defence barrister based in Auckland.
She primarily specialises in large scale drug related cases and is an experienced advocate and advisor with a background in serious drug, sex and violence-related offending. Kima also has considerable experience in fraud, bribery, corruption and internal investigations. She consults internationally for Non-Government Organisations in fraud, compliance, safeguarding and misconduct investigations.
Prior to joining the Independent Bar Kima was a Crown Prosecutor where she prosecuted serious crime. She has also worked for the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care where she led one of the Inquiry’s Catholic case studies examining historic sexual abuse of boys in residential and faith-based care. Kima is also a former Serious Fraud Office lawyer where she specialised in serious and complex fraud investigations.
In 2023, Kima was admitted as a legal practitioner in the New South Wales Supreme Court and practised in Sydney, NSW. During her time in Sydney, Kima specialised in coronial inquests and inquiries at the NSW Crown Solicitors Office where she obtained extensive experience in the coronial jurisdiction working on a wide range of matters including but not limited to; deaths in custody and infant and child deaths.
Kima undertakes both District and High Court trials and can be instructed privately. She is also approved to undertake criminal Legal Aid assignments, Coronial Legal Aid assignments and provides legal aid for victims of historic abuse in State Care.
